Volunteer Positions

What could be more rewarding than volunteering to help the animals at the Humane Society of Kent County?  If you are interested in animal welfare and would like to meet some great people, you have come to the right place!  Training is provided!

Opportunities include:

Adoption Counselor
Adoption Counselors help guests choose their newest family member. This is an extremely rewarding and important volunteer opportunity with the benefits of working with both people and animals.

Humane Educator
Do you like to share your love of animals with others? There is no better way to do so than to represent the Humane Society of Kent County as a presenter at schools, service clubs, and anyone else who may be interested in our services. Sharing information on humane animal care will help animals receive the treatment they deserve.

Greeter
We need friendly faces to greet the public when they come to visit the animals at the Humane Society. These volunteers are seated at our front desk and greet visitors, hand out applications and give directions. These volunteers are a huge asset in making our guests feel welcome!

Cattery Attendant
We are looking for individuals to tend to the new, state-of-the-art Arthur’s Place cattery. The cats need you to give them the attention they deserve while keeping their homes nice and tidy.

Dog Walker
Would you like to get some fresh air with a frisky and furry companion? If so, our dogs would love to go outside with you and play in our dog runs or go for a nice long walk!

Outreach Event Assistant
Join our animals as they hit the road for mobile adoption events at various pet stores and other locations around town.

Special Event Assistant
Help us staff information booths, volunteer fairs, pet supply store visits, escorting our animals to media outlets and participating in special events.

Administrative Assistant
Help out with various office projects such as writing thank you notes, data entry, making copies and other tasks. Enjoy a fun environment and a “behind the scenes” approach to helping the animals.

Other
Do you have any talents or expertise that you think we could utilize? We would love to hear about it! Please indicate your area of interest in the appropriate space on the back of your application.

Because of the amount of time invested in training, we ask that you plan to make at least a six- month commitment to your volunteering.  Our volunteer schedules are variable depending on activity, ranging from two to four hours a week, to “on call” or specific schedules made for special events.
